Here is a question I ask every leadership team I work with. Would your team handle the same guest complaint the same way on every shift?
Morning shift. Evening shift. A busy Friday night. A quiet Tuesday. A new team member in their third week. An experienced one who has seen it all before.
Most leaders pause when I ask this. Because the honest answer is: it depends who is working.
And that answer tells you something important. Not that you have a people problem, but that you have a standards problem. Recovery is still living in individual judgment rather than shared expectation.
The guest does not know who is on shift. They do not adjust their expectation based on the rota. They expect the same quality of response regardless of the day, the hour, or the person in front of them.
Consistency is not about scripting every word. It is about every team member understanding clearly what they can do, what they should do, and how far their ownership goes.
Where in your operation does recovery still depend on who happens to be working? That is where the standard needs to be built.
